The other day I was riding the streetcar in Toronto on a rainy day.  As I stood in the crowded streetcar, I noticed the raindrops running down the streetcar window.

Some raindrops were standing completely still.  Others landed and started to move slowly down the window as they joined up with other raindrops; then when they had gathered sufficient momentum, they started running faster down the window.  Still others landed and immediately launched down the window at lightning speed, gathering up other raindrops in their path.

We are all different kinds of raindrops.

At times, we are standing completely still – we may be paralyzed by stress, indecision, illness or grief.  At other times, we are slowly moving in the direction we want to go and gathering up support, gaining consensus and creating a team of people helping to move us forward.  And at the best of times, we are moving at great speed in our lives and getting closer to where we want to be and the person we want to become.

At different times in our lives, we become different kinds of raindrops.

And we need all kinds of raindrops.

We need the kind who are standing still shoring up their strength to start moving again.  We need the raindrops who are working to build consensus and gain support so they can start on their next courageous journey.  And we need the kind of raindrops that are moving at high speed towards their goals – making mistakes and getting back up and trying again.

So what kind of raindrop are you?  We would love to hear from you in the comments below.
